There are several vegetarian and vegan varieties, including a yummy looking butternaut squash vegan tamale. The enterprising lady behind La Tamalera was inspired to innovate when she visited Mexico and tasted one of the native tamales. She was instantly hooked, but wanted a slightly healthier version, so she created her own and La Tamalera was born.
