Looking for Rare and Classic Electric Vehicles?

by Missy on Monday, May 19th, 2008

If you’re looking for classic, rare, used, or vintage electric vehicles, give eBay Motors a spin. I just wrote on such rare electrice vehicle, a 1980 AMC Hornet.

The AMC Hornet was produced by a now defunct outfit called Solargen, and this rare beauty i wrote about was made in 1980, and needless to say, there aren’t many around like it. According to the eBay seller, it was in storage in Indiana for some time, before they he got his hands on it, to auction off.

The AMC Hornet that was up for auction did not include the battery, explanation unknown. I presume this is more of a collectors item, than something you’re going to ride around town with. The rare electric car did sell at a final bid of $5,300 with a starting bid of $3,500.

I wonder what the new owner is going to do with it? Sell it for more, fix it and drive it, or just keep it as part of an EV collection. Hmmmn.

  • Those cars last forever! Not sure why someone would pay 5k for one (drinking &E-Bay do not mix well).
  • HaHaHa. I wonder "how many things have been bought on eBay whilest under the influence". That sounds like a great blog post title to me.

The EV is rare and if the owner decides to find an electric battery for it, it just might ride. As i read some of the comments on the auction listing, some were seriously interested in making the AMC Hornet active and drive-able.

So it still might have life in it yet.
