Most Americans want 40 mpg

by David Allen on Thursday, June 7th, 2007

A survey by the Civil Society Institute (CSI) has found that three out of four Americans would favor a 40 mpg by 2010 rather tan waiting for the target time of 2018.

40 mpg

There was very little difference between those who are politically affiliated; over 50% of those surveyed said that they would vote for a candidate who supported a 40 mpg fuel efficiency standard.

This appears to go against the amount of larger engines and powerful vehicles that are being sold at the moment and due to go into production, what about the SUV drivers and those who drive sports cars etc, this seems a little weak, or maybe all these people do not really want to drive around in these cars, they are just keeping up appearances!
