Obesity and Food Linked to Global Warming

Obesity and Global Warming

Most people would never consider obesity or food as major contributors to global warming but apparently, the manner of producing them is really the one in the spotlight. To be able to consume food, they have to be made first. Sure we buy them from the nearby groceries and stores but before they get there, there is the due process of manufacturing them that is the real deal in determining if they are catering towards green standard practices.

Most of the issues here cover the areas of the use of energy and greenhouse gases to make those machineries function properly. Add them all together and you will understand why most people are contributing to this growing pain called global warming.

“Eighteen percent more food energy is required in many populations where there is a large prevalence of obesity,” he said, citing a 460-calorie increase in daily food intake for an obese individual. “There is a clear impact in terms of greenhouse gas emissions in order to grow that food.”
