Project7ten: California’s Greenest Home

by erin on Friday, July 20th, 2007

Project7ten is so cool that celebs like Cindy Crawford, John Cusak, David Duchovny, Toby McGuire, Laird Hamilton, Gabrielle Reece, and Ed Begley Jr. have all checked it out.

This new eco-home was certified LEED PLATINIUM. That’s the highest certification an architectural design can receive for its eco-friendly and energy efficient initiative.

The home was designed by Melinda Gray, founder of GRAYmatter Architecture. Although it’s currently under construction, there have been several open houses so that people can come and be impressed with how green it is.

Want to check it out? It’s at 710 Milwood Avenue, Venice, California.

The home includes initiatives like rainwater reclamation system and grey water recycling, locally-sourced sustainable materials, recycled content countertops and insulation, FSC-certified lumber, solar panels to power the home, and appropriate landscape to shade the home during the summer and allow light during the winter.

There will be Energy Star appliances and Kohler water-efficient fixtures. Additionally, whomever buys the home will receive an 18-month lease on a Ford Escape Hybrid.

  • The home definitely has a lot of green features. Its got a great look and feel to it. I am curious as to its market value when it is all said and done. Actually, I am curious about how much added value is a result of the green inclusions.
  • I gotta say it again. This LEED "Platnum" being touted as the "highest" rating for sustainable architecture is nothing short of outrageous. There are all kinds of examples of architecture that are MUCH more green and sustainable than what is cited here. Just drive up to Northern California and visit some of the hand built cob cottages or visit the hand sculpted free form homes dotted over the landscape in Australia or New Zealand.
