The earth-friendly Preserve toothbrush, is made with post-consumer and pre-consumer recycled plastic.

One of the many cool things about this toothbrush is that you can send it in to Recycline, so that the recycling process can continue on, with the brush being turned into plastic lumber. The packaging the brush comes in is also completely recyclable.

Excerpted from the site:

“Why Recycle a Toothbrush? Dentists nationwide recommend that patients replace their toothbrushes at least 4 times a year. The ADA concurs. Toothbrushes not only lose their effectiveness, but they also build up bacteria. Though the average American currently replaces a brush only 1.5 times a year, replacement is expected to increase due to the growing awareness of the benefits of preventative oral hygiene. If we all obey our dentists, toothbrushes will begin to make a pretty significant impact on landfills. At present replacement rates, annual toothbrush waste amounts to about 50 million pounds. With the Preserve, significant amounts of plastic waste are diverted from landfills back into usable goods. As toothbrushes become more and more of a consumable, using recycled materials and the Preserve’s recyclable design makes more and more sense“.

As of April of this year, the eco-friendly toothbrush became available at not so earth-friendly Walmart (company founder, Eric, states it helps with reaching a broader audience), it is also available at Target (in 12 states) and at natural food shops like, Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. Store locator. The brush comes in 8 funky colors.

Come to think of it, i am in need of a toothbrush replacement.

Having in mind, that a toothbrush exists out of quite cheap materials and recycling is quite expensive most of the time, a compostable toothbrush would make much more sense in my opinion.

Despite the fact, that I dought that the components of the toothbrush get devided are fully recycled .. can you provide some more information.

Anyway: the design looks really nice ,-)
