The bike vending machine

by David Allen on Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

This is a Dutch scheme where bikes are stored in a vending type machine and whoever wants to hire one simply pays the set amount and rides the bike to the nearest vending machine to where they are wishing to get to.

bike share

There are a couple of schemes like this, but this one seems to be run on a better system than the others because this one works on a more user friendly way. Before anyone thinks about riding off with the bike, they are fitted with a RFID which tracks the bike should it be stolen and also logs all the journeys.

The scheme is a great idea, but there may be problems with the bikes, like flat tires and chains coming etc, that would really ruin the day.
