The Human Powered Future: Meet The Green Gym in Portland
To conserve energy and cut costs, owner Adam Boesel has come up with The Green Gym. This gym harnesses human power and turns it into electricity.
The Green Gym located in Northeast Portland, is shooting for 100% human power to run its operations, but for now it is at 20 to 25%. Some of the exercise machines are plugged into weedwacker motors and truck alternators and when the machines are in use by the gym patrons, it juices up the gym.
This is the first human powered gym in the US, and is causing great buzz for the human powered renewable energy movement. Check out the video above for a first look at the green gym.
