Unilever to produce sustainable tea
Unilever the giant company, who own Lipton, who just happen to be the worlds largest tea company, are making commitments to purchase all its tea from sustainable and ethical sources.
The leading brand is the popular PG Tips, and along with other Lipton branded teas will become the first teas to be certified as being from sustainable sources, from around 2010 in Europe and by 2015 for the rest of the world.
Unilever is said to buy around 12% of all the worlds black tea, and their involvement in these scheme are set to spread throughout the tea growing communities across the world, in Africa, south America, and of course east Asia, but more than just covering the tea, these schemes cover the social, environmental, wildlife protection and water conservation for these areas, so you can see the extent of this, on the whole area.
