Virgin Festival Aims to Be Tree-Free

by erin on Friday, July 20th, 2007

The Virgin Festival, which will feature acts like The Police & The Smashing Pumpkins, Innocent Criminals, Beastie Boys, Incubus, Amy Winehouse, Wu Tang Clan, and 311, is hoping to be a completely tree-free event.

The concert — which will be held from August 4-5 — is asking attendees to “Green it like you mean it.” This includes asking patrons to do the following:

BYOB – that’s bottle, not booze. Bring your own empty or factory sealed bottle of water, and refill it throughout the festival at the filling stations. If they do this right, it will be a huge success and save thousands of plastic bottles, as well as a huge chunk of change for the fans.

Compost – All of the food waste will be composted nearby in local farms. ( So eat up!)

Tree-free – All of the paper products will be 100% recycled paper…even the toilet paper. No virgin trees, baby. Yeah!

The event will also use renewable energy, compostable plates and utensils, and encourage mass transit!

Tickets are still available for this event. It’s $175.00 for both days, or $98.00 for just one! Or, volunteer! Sure, it’ll be a bit dirtier, but it’ll be cheaper too!

  • More festivals should be thinking like this. The Earth Aid festival is a shame with the amount of waster produced....couple with celebrities like madonna telling people to cut back their carbon footprint when she's got a footprint of about 100 people.

Congrats to Virgin festival for taking a step forward with this!!
