Wal-Mart Sets Green Standards for Suppliers

Dead-set in doing its part towards contributing towards the green mission, Wal-Mart has set forth standards towards its old and new suppliers by requiring them to submit measured carbon footprints and how they intend to improve such a situation if present.

There are a lot of suppliers who will certainly be hit by this, mostly suppliers who would fall in set categories that have been identified as being among the contributors towards a sagging standard of living today.

“Some of them are things we rarely think about — like our vacuum cleaners — and some of them are things we’d rather think about, like beer and movies,” John Fleming, Wal-Mart’s chief merchandising officer, said yesterday at a news conference in New York. “But each of these products has an impact on our planet.”
