My office at work has 2 windows. Recently, I started leaving the fluorescent lights turned off in my office as much as possible and using natural daylight coming in the north facing windows.

The problem is that it really bothers my co-workers ... some of what I am hearing from them on a daily basis ... they think I am not there because the light is off [the door is completely open and they can see me at my desk when walking past my office] ... I'm working in the dark [it is not dark but it is not brightly lit or glaring either].

I open the blinds/curtains at home and use daylight coming through the windows to see to do things in the daytime ... I am guessing most of them do also ... yet at work ... it is a big deal and some people even turn the lights on for me ... someone today had to make sure the light was not broken or burnt out and needing replaced.

I do not understand why it bothers everyone so much and why they are so insistent on me having the lights on. I would think management in particular would like the idea of saving money on the energy bill if nothing else and embrace it as a cost cutting idea for everyone with windows but it bothers them even more than other people.

Any ideas of anything I could perhaps do to make my co-workers more comfortable with my office lights being off? I know many recycle at home, so do you think maybe they will get used to it over time to where it won't bother them so much if I just keep smiling and repeating that I am saving energy?
