You can build your own Wind Turbine

How would you like to build your own wind turbine that can actually produce electricity, so what is needed to build one of these remarkable devices:

wind turbine

Basic makeup of a wind turbine.

1. A generator.
2. Blades.
3. A mounting that keeps it turned into the wind.
4. A tower to get it up into the wind.
5. Batteries and an electronic control system.

The great thing is, most of the components are available from online auction sites, junkyards or indeed you have already have them lying around the home.

Here is an example of what it cost Michael Davies:

Part - Origin - Cost

Motor/Generator - Ebay - $26.00
Misc. pipe fittings - Home center Store - $41.49
Pipe for blades - Home center Store - $12.84
Misc hardware - Home center Store - $8.00
Conduit - Home center Store - $19.95
Wood & Aluminum - Scrap Pile - $0.00
Power Cable - Old extension cord - $0.00
Rope & Turnbuckles - Home center Store - $18.47

Relay - Auto Parts Store - $13.87
Battery - Borrowed from my UPS - $0.00
