Shop green at farmers markets

by David Allen on Saturday, May 19th, 2007

One way to make sure that your weekly or daily grocery shopping trip is as eco friendly as possible is to find a local farmers market and get your groceries there, of course you may not be able to get everything that you need, but as far as food is concerned there is nothing more eco friendly than buying from the person who grows it.

By using local resources you are cutting out on all the traveling that your food would normally be doing, supermarkets and food manufacturers transport food all over the country, sometimes it is bought in one place gets transported to the central distribution points and finally sometimes returns right back to where it started from, all those miles to end up a few hundred yards from where it was grown, now that is defiantly not eco friendly.

Why not give it try; you never know it could start you on the road to a new eco friendly life.
