Tesco in trouble over local milk

by David Allen on Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

The UK’s largest supermarket chain Tesco is in trouble again over the distance that its “Local” milk travels over 150 miles, which by US standards may not seem a lot, but in the UK, it is almost half way across the country!

The brand of milk named “The Local Choice” is described by the store as supporting local farms, but in order for the milk to get to the store it must have gone past quite a few other stores, so it is this what the BBC have been looking into.

On the other hand, Tesco state that there is no legal definition of the word local in shopping terms, and that it means different things to different people. Whereas most people only want fresh milk, with no additives, a totally natural product.
