Only in the movies can we perhaps see structures such as these, isolated and certainly something that anyone would surely avoid being in. Well from the looks of it, it does look scary and certainly something which would need a lot provisions for folks looking at ample living, no matter how temporary it may be.
But not this mountain lair, the Refuge du Gouter which is said to be a self-sustaining structure. The structure measures about 2,300 square feet and is big enough to accommodate up to 20 people. It is able to deliver required heat and electricity through the aid of two separate banks of solar powered panels while clean water is delivered through melted snow.
Named after the chasm it’s perched atop, the taste of refuge plays home to those seeking to climb to the peak of Mont Blanc, the European Union’s highest peak.
