Live Earth Rio Could Be Canceled
Despite the fact that about one million people might attend, there exists a possibility that the Live Earth concert in Brazil could be canceled.
BBC writes
The Latin American leg of Saturdays Live Earth concerts may have to be canceled due to concerns over a lack of security staff available to patrol the event.
A judge ruled that the event may be ‘unsafe’ because there would not be enough officers to guarantee crowd safety. This has been blamed on the fact that police in the area will be focusing their efforts on the Pan American Games, due to begin on 13th July.
The promotion company behind the Brazilian concerts is fighting to overturn the judgment, and has emphasized that it will be bringing in cameras and observation towers to ensure security at the event. But if they fail, this will be the second cancellation to befall the Live Earth project, since Isanbul pulled out last month due to poor sponsorship and lack of time.
While this is a fair concern, lets hope they can get their act together for Saturday! It would be a shame if the continent that was left out wasn’t Antarctica, but South America.
