Mow Your Lawn with the Sunlawn Traditional Way

To keep our landscapes and lawns looking good, we often need to mow them down and trim them properly for that added good look. However, we have turned to the usual gasoline-powered mowers today and this may soon be diminishing in the next couple of months. The reason for this is that rising costs of fuel are not that easy on the pocket and the pollution that they create is equally another issue up for discussion.

Manual mowers are being revived today and Sunlawn is resurging this popular way of mowing lawns that was introduced in the 1830’s. Other than being a good alternative towards a bit of exercise, it helps get your garden looking good in the way that it should be.

Although push or “reel” mowers were originally developed in the 1830s, Mr. Jarvis and his company, Sunlawn, created a remarkable resurgence in their popularity. His dedication to revitalize gardening the way it is meant to be and an increase in environmental awareness and events such as Earth Day help provide practical steps that consumers can easily take to help the environment.

  • There is a lot less noise pollution with these too!

I had a push mower to cut grass when I was a kid - I was probably about 12 or 13 when my grandmother bought a gas mower. I was not allowed to start it - I just got to push it around the yard after she got it started. It was quite a novelty to me at first but it took twice as long to cut the grass as pushing the kid powered one - the gas one had to have the grass unclogged from the bottom a lot and then it had to cool before it would re-start.

I bought one at a local Home Depot several years ago when I was living in a duplex - it was a very small yard. When I was moving back to an apt., I put it out on the curb. I didn't know if anyone would want it or not since most people have power mowers.

It was not out there 10 minutes when an older man came and got it. I wished that I had had it when I was living in my daughter's rental house but since being out in the TX heat tends to make me ill (maybe it is blood pressure related-not sure) and it was a large yard, I hired someone to come mow the grass.

He surprised me though. Instead of bagging the grass for the garbage (most neighbors had 2 bags of grass per week on the curb), he used a mulch mower - it was not messy and the grass was fabulous. And he only mowed it every other week.

If I buy a house this year, I plan to buy one of these and have my grandson come over and push it around and mow the grass for me. With one of these, if I went out at sunrise before the heat of the day, maybe I could even mow the grass again since it wouldn't wake the neighbors like a power mower. I wish I had thought of it before.
