Surfs Up with Surfboard Shapers

by Brian Yalung on Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

People who love to go surfing are bound to love these soy-based surfboards launched by Jeff Bushman and Kyle Bernhardt. Surfboarding is something familiar to most especially when Hawaii is mentioned and while we do have the standard surfboards in the market, trying to mess around with the materials using the sustainable and ideal eco-friendly resources would something be different when you try to surf the great oceans of Hawaii.

This summer Jeff Bushman and Kyle Bernhardt launched the Country Feeling Surfboards line, which uses “soy- and sugar-based foams, plant-based and solar-activated resins, and hemp, silk, and bamboo cloth,” according to their press release. As Bernhardt explained in a phone interview last night, he and his partner, both originally from California, had been “messing around with the stuff” for almost two years before they decided to create their line of boards built from alternative materials.

For sure, surfers could care less about the materials used on their boards but if you could do it without spoiling the fun you have riding the waves then why not?
