Albuterol Inhalers to be Banned

by Brian Yalung on Saturday, September 27th, 2008

It seems that even the asthma-riddled people will have to adjust and change their old asthma inhalers, the Albuterol Inhalers, due to some controversy due to some restrictions in chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) due to a federal ban on the propellant. But while these trusty old inhalers have been a great ally to asthmatic people, a new and better inhaler is said to be in the works and people do not need to fret.

Who would think that even the supposed asthma support inhalers could be dangerous to the environment? It just goes to show that you have to look at everything and see their impact for the good of the environment.

Cowan and many other athsmatics across the Big Country are finding out that their doctors are phasing out the old inhalers because of restrictions on chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) due to a federal ban on the propellant.

But Cowan and other athsmatics should not worry because new rescue inhalers contain the drug Albuterol but employ a different propellant that is not harmful to the environment. The old Albuterol inhalers, which use are the generic forms of Ventolin and Proventil inhalers, will no longer be available after Dec. 31

The new inhalers are NOT as good. Every asthmatic I know is having difficulties, including myself. Ask any asthma/allergy doctor or pharmacist about the complaints they have received.

Sort of takes my breath away to think that my breathing has to be compromised because some idiot in the FDA/EPA thinks our baseline emergency medication was going to enlarge the ozone layer; it is a joke.

What is not a joke is the fact that I no longer feel I can trust the new medication to be as fast or effective when I have an emergency.

I have just tried the new inhalers and do not feel that they are capable of doing the job for which they are intended. I do not feel that this has brought me any relief despite taking double the dosage because I didn't think anything was coming out of the inhaler. I don't know what sort of testing was done on these new inhalers but obviously not enough.
  • Seems to me that the new inhalers were just a ploy to increase the price of the same drug because of it's new CFC free packaging.

5 yrs ago I was paying $10 for an inhaler at Costco, now they are $43 per inhaler. Last year they were $18, I think big pharma is to blame as well as the gov't that some how things those little inhalers are gonna rip holes in the atmosphere and cause global warming.

It's all about keeping the money machine going and I have opted out by ordering my inhalers overseas. I have scored 5 inhalers for $55 bucks including shipping.
