Unilever Doing Well with Eco-friendly Detergents

by Brian Yalung on Saturday, December 27th, 2008

What do people need these days to be conservative and eco-friendly? As far as their laundry is concerned, Unilever has been given the thumbs up as far as its eco-friendly detergent alternative is concerned. The product? Surf Excel Quick Wash which was primarily launched in India.

Unilever launched Surf Excel Quick Wash in India. The detergent uses half as much water as traditional brands, saving an estimated 14 billion liters of water each year. That’s an important innovation especially for consumers in the dry southern states of India, where water is scarce. The company says sales of the brand are up 27 percent in the first six months of 2008 in India.

Saving water (a natural resource that is surely being pegged as one of the endangered elements needed by people to survive) has become a big plus for consumers. Wearing clean clothes is important and while many don’t have the luxury of washing their clothes without worrying about adequate water supplies, laundry solutions such as this one conceptualized by Unilever is bound to get attention.

It would be surprising to note when this product would penetrate the various parts of the world like Europe. However, considering how much people want to save and entertain new products, don’t be surprised if it happens any time soon.
