Japan Being Choked by China’s Pollution

by Brian Yalung on Thursday, September 6th, 2007

Photochemical Smog

It is deemed as a phenomenon that is waiting to happen and something that should not come as a surprise. Pollution coming from one country is bound to hit another and this is perhaps something that Japan is now facing. Photochemical smog is now within the area of the Japanese region and it is something that has come from China’s continued pollution problem.

Photochemical smog–a type of air pollution considered by many to be a thing of the past–has recently returned stronger than ever.

Experts say this is primarily due to the effects of cross-border pollution coming from China.

The total number of warnings over high-level photochemical smog issued by prefectural and municipal governments in many parts of the country this year had hit 28 as of the end of August–a record high since the smog warning system was launched in 1971.
