Lawn Mowers To Undergo Emission Testing

by Brian Yalung on Monday, September 8th, 2008

If you think carbon emissions are primarily caused by gas-belching vehicles then guess again. This time around, even the standard gas-powered home mowers need to watch out as there are new emission rules that will be enforced to lower the emissions that they cause each time home owners decide to have their lawns trimmed.

Beginning in 2011, new gas-powered lawn and garden equipment of less than 25 horsepower will be required to reduce emissions by 35 percent, and all gas-powered recreational boats must reduce emissions by 70 percent in 2010, according to new EPA regulations

As an alternative, people can start using their old lawn mowers through muscle power for better lawns. With this new EPA regulation, people are bound to want to check if their current mowers are up to par with the set standards.
