Mattress recycling laws are essential and we wish more states in the U.S. enforce them. Recently Rhode Island passed its its own mattress recycling law, making it the third U.S. state to do so. With the newly placed mattress recycling law, a proper disposal of old mattresses will be ensured.
The newly palsied legislation encourages non-profit organizations to collect mattresses for recycling, for a certain fee and the law is also being endorsed by the ISPA. Other states that have passed mattress recycling laws in the past are California and Connecticut.
According to the law, mattress manufacturers are now allowed to collect a certain fee for disposing an old mattress, when a new one is bought in its place. The manufacturer then transfers the fee to the non-profit organization, which will ensure proper recycling is done.
