Cloth Diapers No Better than Disposables Says Study

by erin on Thursday, July 5th, 2007

I always thought that cloth diapers were the way to go to green your baby. So did a lot of earth-friendly moms. However, a new report published by the British Environment Agency suggests that this is, in fact, not the case.

The report suggests that while cloth diapers don’t end up in a landfill, the energy required to produce them and to wash them is just as damaging to the environment as the disposable diapers in the landfill.

I’m sorry, but this sounds A LOT like that study that was published last year that ‘proved’ Hummers were more eco-friendly than hybrids. It’s all about perspectives. I say, eco-moms, breathe easy and feel good about your cloth diapers. Especially if you have an eco-friendly washing machine!

  • I think that report is bogus as well. HE washing machines can cut energy usage way down and line drying will eliminate the need for a dryer. Grey water can be reused outisde the home too.

Like the picture BTW, I made those diapers...nice choice. ;)
