Pig Fat to be Turned into Diesel Fuel

by Missy on Thursday, August 9th, 2007

As reported by Science Blogger Lisa, over at Inventor Spot. Giant meat producer Tyson Foods and oil company Conoco Phillips, are teaming up to create diesel out of animal byproduct fat from Pigs, Chickens, and Cows.

They state that pig fat diesel is “cleaner than regular diesel, as it has lower levels of carbon dioxide, and zero sulfur”. As a vegetarian, i don’t support this new pig fat diesel, but am reporting it to inform on the measure.

What do you guys think of this intended new animal-based diesel?

You should know that this new "pig fat diesel" is produced using the same process that is used to produce "biodiesel". The only difference being that biodiesel is made from vegetable oils. You should also know that production of "pig fat diesel" would not drive the senseless killing of animals, but, would make use of a waste by-product driven by the natural human demand for meat. You should not view it as killing animals. It is only making a more efficient use of the resources available. If they are going to be killed we might as well use all of them. Humans will always eat meat, therefore, there will always be animal fat as a by-product. BTW....I am not a vegetarian of any sort.
