Windmills for backyards hit snag
The grow in the so called backyard windmills has seen a massive growth over the past couple of years, and has now grown into a $18 million per year industry in the US alone, although the industry believes that the figure could actually triple if there was some local acceptance of these schemes, and that is where the problem lies.
Zoning boards and neighborhood associations have seen many complaints that the windmills are unsightly and there is always the possibility that the blades could break loose and fly off, causing damage to people and property or that there would be too much noise from the machinery.
The average residential windmill costs around $12,000 and this cut the energy bill by between 10 % and 50 % but it depends on the wind and location.
