We are all aware that the need to address pollution issues is very important. In fact if not, we may as well find ourselves sick or not at the best of health. Thanks to some Dutch scientists, a new kind of pavement may help reduce these harmful emissions through a special kind of pavement.
Apparently, they were able to come up with something by treating paving blocks with a titanium oxide, something that was reportedly able to cut smog in half. With these blocks, the immediate beneficiary is surely our atmosphere and eventually of course, us.
The special photovoltaic pavement was able to reduce smog by 45% in ideal conditions and 19% throughout the day.
By coating paving blocks in titanium oxide, the pavement pulls harmful nitrogen oxides out of the air and converts them into less dangerous chemicals such as nitrates. The discovery was published in the June edition of the Journal of Hazardous Materials.
