Re-Bag It When Shopping in Berkshire

by Brian Yalung on Friday, November 7th, 2008

Don’t be surprised if the next time you go to the store, you may find no more shopping bags by the counter. Apparently, these disposable bags, usually plastic or paper, are key contributors towards our worsening issue of garbage and waste. So to put a stop to it, Massachusetts residents are putting a special emphasis on encouraging shoppers to turn to reusable bags when they shop. It has actually partnered with 80 local stores to go about it and while it may be a pain at first, rest assured that it will be something for the good of all.

“We knew we had to get the stores involved,” said Stephanie Blumenthal of Green For A Change, which was formed in 2006 to advocate locally for environmental issues. “Knowing how retailers are hit up for everything … we didn’t know how they would respond but the response has been unbelievable.”

So if you haven’t started yet, get one of these reusable bags and tag it along. It can lessen the problems you may find especially if no more traditional shopping bags are there to house your shopping items.
