Silk ties and old keys

by David Allen on Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

The classic mix of the old and the new, with a classic silk tie, mixed in with a recycled chain and key.

Silk ties and old keys

This is a reminder of times gone by, when the gentleman of the era would not be seen without their ties, chains, keys and watches. No watches come with this design though, as I suspect it must be heavy enough as it is. Don’t stand by the water while wearing this. It could be fatal!

Prices are from $72.00.

  • Yikes! I don't like this at all, a tie with a key around it? I don't think so. lol. I think the makers of this tie are totally missing the eco concept of recycling. They could have just made a tie out of recycled materials, not add a recycled key and chain. That is too funny.

I don't see the basis of this critique at all - if the maker is using any form of reclaimed material, isn't it still beneficial as a whole? To be putting any old object to some kind of new use is a darned good place to start. Baby steps.

Especially in high fashion, a world full of rampant waste, toxic dyes, inks and solvents, I like to see *any* percentage of the garment, embellishment or entire piece, using some non-virgin materials. If we can create a culture that actually finds reclaimed materials aesthetically pleasing, I think we are most certainly going in the right direction on a much larger scale.

Plus I think the idea of accessorizing a tie is pretty cool - certainly trumps the old tie tack. If small design houses can put out stuff like this I hope some of the larger (offenders) companies can follow suit and introduce reclaimed products into their lines, I only fear it'll be too expensive to be taken on as a large scale project. We can hope.
