Bridgestone unveils Recycled Air Free Tires

by Brian Yalung on Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

Wheels or rubber are among the other contributors to our waste and most tire manufacturers are trying to come up with a new line of tires, preferably with some eco-friendly intent. And on that note, it looks like Bridgestone has heeded the call, reportedly unveiling an airless tire that is 100% recyclable.

The new air free concept features meshed spokes made from thermoplastic resins which should make it safer for people on the road. This means car owners can now worry less about punctures or flats on the road while seeing the said resins “reused” to cover waste issue concerns.

The Bridgestone Airless tires were shown at the Tokyo Motor Show and measure 9 inches in diameter. Each wheel is strong enough to support about 150kg although it seems the spoke design may need added protection to keep objects from getting lodged in the spokes.
