Green La Girl makes note that buying and using recycled aluminum foil is less taxing on the environment, than buying and using new virgin foil. This she writes, is because “recycled aluminum foil uses 95% less energy to produce than foil made from virgin aluminum”.

This is what the Aluminum Association has to say about the energy expended to produce new foil “at an annual sum of more than $2 billion, the aluminum industry is a major industrial user of electricity. Since the electrolytic process is the only commercially proven method of producing aluminum, the industry has on its own pursued opportunities to reduce its use of electricity”. The association states how recycling is vital in their energy conservation efforts, and how we all play a part.

You can buy recycled aluminum foil at GreenFeet.com for $3.99 and take it a step further, check with your local board as many cities have active aluminum recycling programs in place.
