To help them attain their goal of recycling 25% of their Polyethylene terephtlhalate (rPet) by year’s end, softdrink giant Coca Cola has has opened its £15 million UK facility. As the rant over the use of plastic bottles continues, Coca Cola is one of the many drinks manufacturers that are being hit by the whole plastic waste binge.
The plant will reportedly save the planet about 33,500 tonnes of CO2 per year, roughly about the same number of taking out about 15K cars on the road. The UK will thus gain distinction of being home to the world’s largest plastic recycling plant, likewise producing 30 jobs in the area.
The facility was opened by Environment Minister Lord Taylor of Holbeach who noted that the plant will more than double the amount of rPET previously created in Britain.
