Could this be the end of the plastic bag?

by David Allen on Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

Well according to some sources it could be possible, yet even here in the UK we use around ten billion plastic bags every year, for a country the size of the states, it could be as much as five times that or more, which is an awful lot of plastic most of which is just simply thrown in the trash where it begins its 500 year cycle to disintegrate.

There is a campaign launching on the 14th June which aims to put a stop to routine of putting everything that you buy into a plastic bag, “Plastic Ain’t My Bag” is the name of this campaign and what it will mean is that shops and store will place the logo on their windows and other prominent places, this will tell their customers that if they require a plastic bag then they would need to ask for one, this simple act is supposed to stop the mindset that everything bought comes in a plastic bag.

How this will go down with the buying public only time will tell, but there are already some impressive sign ups to the campaign such as Virgin and Dermalogica.

  • Good idea! I think it will help a great deal for awareness - having to ask for a bag, because it raises the question of "why wouldn't I want a plastic bag", or someone who maybe never thought about it.

Cool loog for the campaign too! :)
