Museum Spits out Discarded Books

Depending on how you look at it, this is one scene that could either tell you that the place is full of books or something odd is going on like perhaps someone throwing out books for one reason or another.

On both cases you are wrong though. The whole bookpile is actually a work of art. The surreal scene was designed by Alicia Martin, one who reuses books which she collects from donations. Apparently, old unwanted books are given a new lease on life with this structure, a sure eye-catcher if you happen to get the chance to pass by it.

The sculpture is based upon an iron frame skeleton and it’s designed to change as time and the weather turn the pages yellow. The site-specific work leapt from one of the historic buildings’ front windows and landed inside an ornate fence that strained to contain the books.
