Pennsylvania Car Wash Recycles Water

by Missy on Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

In Hummelstown, Pennsylvania the local car wash run by Zimmerman Automotive Services, has something innovative taking place.  Something new and something green.

When you go to wash your car, all the water you see is being re-used. The owner has decided to recycle the dirty water to reuse in other areas of the car wash.

It goes into filtration, three filtration tanks. I use it for spot free rinse. I use it for chassis rinse. I just keep turning it over and over, trying to use as little water as possible,” says Jeff Walter, Zimmerman’s Automotive Service.

The owner wishes to use as little water as possible to operate his local car wash. I can only imagine how much water is used (and wasted) in a typical day, in a typical car wash facility.

This is a great example of grassroots level water conservation.
