Recycled Plastic as Pillows?

by Brian Yalung on Sunday, December 7th, 2008

We all know that pillows would have to be soft and cuddly to get a good night’s sleep but apparently recycled materials have been found to provide that as well. There are actually 1,600 recyclable materials that you can use and apparently this is something worth checking out.

Hollander Home Fashions, a major bedding manufacturer, created the Natural Elements Pillow, the insides of which are made of crushed, recycled green plastic bottles.

The pillows’ eco-friendly fiber fill – called “beepee” – requires 30 to 40 crushed plastic bottles each, depending on the pillow size. While you may find this a bit awkward, if it is a point for eco-friendliness as well as comfort, then why not? Check them out at local stores. They are under the Natural Elements Brand.

  • While this may be eco-friendly, it certainly can't be healthy!!! Plastic decays over time, and releases detrimental chemicals that can harm your body. Remember, you're going to be resting your head on this all night every night if used correctly, so plan accordingly and get something that's natural organic.

That way your helping the environment and not poisoning yourself at the same time.
