The thing about responsible recycling is that some people would probably care less about the proper sorting of which materials can be recycled and which cannot. So with that in mind, you can just imagine the waste produced by companies and the chances that they would be probably sorted out.
Well, a robot may be able to help. Something like the ZenRobotics Recycler (ZRR). The said robot sifts through piles of rubble from construction and finds bits and pieces safe and ideal for recycling.
The robot is able to do the trick with the aid of a “sensor fusion” to get the job done. It relies on things like 3D laser scanners, metal scanners, and spectrometers to decide what’s made of what.
The said robot sorter can work twice as fast as a human being and should be a big help to companies who have a hard time (or not) sorting out the recyclable materials.
Five units have been shipped around Europe and more models are entering production this year.
