Snowboarding Gear made of Recycled Coconut Fibers

by Brian Yalung on Friday, February 24th, 2012

Coconut shells have their various ways of being reused. Like in the Philippines, they are turned into floor scrubbers known as “Bunot”. But for the more advanced people who want to expound the many used of discarded coconut shells, they may be good as materials as well for making clothes.

Apparently that is what Homeschool, a snowboarding company, has come up with. They have combined fabric with the fiber from discarded coconut shells. The shells contain micro-porous structures that provide a greater surface area; when the body heats up the greater surface area helps accelerate the evaporation of moisture.

The patented process is called Cocona technology. The fiber produced reportedly increases breathability by 40% and is naturally odor resistant. Even when washed, the odor does not wear off and retain its quality in the process.
