Super Bowl 2009 Was Green (Well, Sort Of)

by Missy on Monday, February 2nd, 2009

I’m not sure why there wasn’t much press on the fact that the Superbowl made an attempt to be green this year.

As the New York Times reports, this year the Superbowl initiated several eco-friendly changes to game day.

Some of the changes included:

  • a composting program
  • the use of biodegradable plates forks straws and napkins
  • new LED lighting displays
  • the recycling of cooking grease.

Surely these subtle changes and or additions don’t put the Superbowl on any “Top 10 Eco friendly Event” list, but just the fact that they are being cognizant of how HUGE this event is in terms of energy usage and resources, means they are headed in a solid direction.

And every bit helps.
