VegaWatt: From Veggie Oil To Electric Power

by Missy on Friday, January 23rd, 2009

A new company by the name of Vega Watt aims to teach restaurant owners about the power of veggie oil. Electric power.

Vega Watt is hoping that restaurant owners turn their vegetable oil into electricity to help power their businesses. One way they plan to do is is by retrofitting a special unit that refines and filters your veggie oil for reuse into EC power.

You can rent the Vega Watt unit or buy it outright for $22,000 and over time this device could potentially save you hundreds of dollars a month according to Vega Watt estimates. The unit wont power your entire operation, but will power up about 10% to 25% of your restaurant.

The intangibles include a government incentive or rebate, green cred, and a step towards possible LEED certification. Not too mention some nice local press when it gets out that your cool eatery is partially powered by veggie oil. This is PR you can’t buy anywhere.
