Waffle Cones and Ice Cream, Hold The Cup

by Missy on Saturday, September 29th, 2007

Summer is close to being over, but the weather is still mild throughout most of the U.S. and the temps on sunny days still will us to the local ice cream shop, and since we are ever so vigilant of eco friendly and being green, here is a quick tip on just that, idea came to me after reading Vanessa over at Green Thistle.

Next time you’re at the ice cream parlor (i prefer the word parlor gives it that old world charm) and the counter boy asks cone or cup, choose the cone. I usually go for the big chocolaty sprinkled waffle cone, and speaking of ice cream i love me some Cold Stone and my all time favorite is Oberweiss. If you’re from Chicago (like me) or the Midwest, you know what i’m talking about, dont you? hmmmn. Delish.

To get back on topic, choose the cone over the cup, and then there will be nothing to throw away. Saving the world one icea cream cone at a time.

The rats that founded Cold Stone are jumping from the ship as hundreds of Cold Stone locations are now collapsing around the US. Why? Because the “concept” of mixing stuff into ice cream has always been a fad, and the fad is now over. The product isn’t that good, is grossly overpriced, and consumers are flocking back to properly formulated ice cream from other chains like Baskin Robbins and Ben & Jerry’s.

The Cold Stones have been largely sold to Yuppies with too much equity in their homes, who jumped into the stores to be “business owners”. But since the labor costs are double the competition, and stores are too big and too expensive to run, the number of unprofitable stores is skyrocketing with the results we have here
