What Happens to Old Flags?

by Brian Yalung on Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

Flags are often used to represent countries but there are events such as the last Beijing Olympics which create their own flag versions for the meet. But have you ever wondered what happens to these flags once the event is all over? Some hide them for remembrance but others recycle them in such a way to avoid adding them to waste problems.

As far as China is concerned, they will recycle flags and posters used in Beijing Olympics into everyday utility items. These used flags and large posters which helped build promotion for the prestigious meet will be used to publicize the Olympics, into decoration and other items of everyday use

Zhao Dongming, the BOCOG cultural activities director, said the materials would be designed to make more than ten kinds of articles, including cushions, pillows, vests and newspaper stands.

Now how is that for a good way to put off recycling on a bright note?
