Battery or AC Outlet? – PC Power Question Answered
Which is more eco friendly? To run your laptop on AC power or run it off the battery.
An article at Slate delves into this question. AC outlet vs. pc battery, which is best? And they mention that there is a 5 year old report written by the NRDC (National Resource Defense Council) which concludes that:
running a laptop from AC power is about 20 percent more energy-efficient than doing it off a battery
Also take note that your battery will get drained if you spend day and nite on the laptop, regardless. But using a laptop versus a desktop (which has a monitor) is the more energy efficient way to go.
In fact it is estimated that using a laptop consumes 80% less energy than a desktop. That is huge.
