Two clever New York City students have come up with a shirt that is about as unique as a shirt can get.
The shirt dubbed the Carbon Monoxide Pollution Detecting Shirt has a series of sensors and is made from a special fabric that can literally detect when high or dangerous levels of carbon monoxide are present. Why would anyone want this? For sure now, it’s just a novelty of sorts. But we envision this being something quite useful at hospitals, schools, churches, nursing homes, pet shelters, etc.
This shirt could potentially save lives, as carbon monoxide is quite difficult to detect on its own. You can’t see it, smell it, feel it, etc.
Each shirt consists of conductive thread and temperature-sensitive thermochromic fabric, which changes color when an electronic sensor triggers warming electrical currents. The marked contrast from pink to blue has even caught some smokers by surprise during the duo’s test runs.
