Despite issues brought about by nuclear energy, Russia has reportedly launched its first floating nuclear power plant. The said power plant is called the Akademik Lomonosov which will be capable of generating power of up to 70 megawatts of electricity.
Construction for the said power plant started last April of 2007 where the said vessel will contain two small nuclear KTL-40 naval propulsion reactors. The power generated by the said power plant would be enough to juice up 200,000 people.
The ship is estimated to cost $232 million and when it becomes operational will supply power to Severodvinsk town and Sevmash itself.
