All Aboard the Big Green Bus
College students at Dartmouth in New Hampshire are taking on the mission of ecology in a most magnificent big green bus. This will be the third annual road trip and they visit several cities throughout the nation imparting their environmental message to people at fairs, festivals, concerts, and other high traffic avenues. Their mission as stated on their site is “we seek to discuss environmental responsibility, the viability of alternative fuels, and tangible solutions to local and global energy issues”.
The bus runs on vegetable oil (yes, vegetable oil) and is itself a model of sustainability as evidenced by its, “NASA-quality solar panel, a telescoping wind turbine, on-board waste composting, pedal generators to charge [the student] iPods, and a sustainably-harvested hardwood floor. They start their road trip on June 12, and their motto is: “we are Dartmouth students out to change the world, one veggie oil powered bus at at time” which i think is simple, yet profound.
Look for the Big Green Bus at a city near you!
