Google has reportedly invested $168 million dollars on the world’s largest solar power plant. This is the Mojave Desert Solar Plant, something that is being handled by BrightSource Energy which should be a great move towards aiding in the going need for alternative sources of power.
The power plant will make use of technology called power towers. Mirrors (heliostats) will be rearranged in such a way to make use of the sun’s rays which will be situated at the top of the tower. The power tower at Ivanpah will be around 450 feet tall. The plant will use 173,000 heliostats, and each heliostat will have two mirrors, making Ivanpah the largest project of its kind.
The tower is expected to be completed by 2013 and should be something helpful, given the current issues the world has as far as energy sources are concerned.
