Heat Loss Maps of Shame

by Missy on Saturday, September 29th, 2007

In London, England there is a process happening that is using unusual practices to combat energy IN-EFFICIENCY in homes. They are using heat mapping to locate homes that have great heat loss and making the data available for all to see.

From what i can gather the way this practice works is that an airplane with some sort of thermal imaging whatchamacallit is able to transcribe the heat of the homes. This info is then made available to the general public via this website, the Haringey Interactive Heat Loss Map, and others can see who is in the red (good) and who is in the blue (bad) .

Interesting way to shame folks into using energy better or going green. What do you think of this practice? Have you heard of this before elsewhere?

  • I think my house is probably bad because it's old although we've been installing roll upon roll of insulation so hopefully things will be better this winter.
