After seeing that flower-shaped solar power source, today we find something that may very well be put in space. This is with reference to the Solar Power Satellite, another alternative energy source that should be pretty much welcome as we continue to grope for the need of various energy needs.
The new proposal comes from John Mankins from Artemis Innovation Management Solutions and is made of an array of thin film mirrors that will be responsible for collecting rays from the sun. The mirrors would then transmit sunlight to a set of photovoltaic cells located on the back of the satellite.
The whole thing weighs about 440 pounds which should address the transportation issues tied up on how to orbit this satellite energy source.
